Yale Prints

FROM THE YALE COLLECTION
A LIMITED NUMBER OF BEAUTIFULLY DETAILED HANDMADE YALE COLLEGE PRINTS

Over the past few years, British Artist Andrew Ingamells has produced a different Yale College print each summer with the 2022 launch being Trumbull College.

Each handmade print is produced using the Gravure Etching technique (Italian notch or indentation process), whereby the artist’s detailed drawing is photographically transferred onto a plate to make etched, ink-bearing lines.

The plate is then inked up separately for each print and put through an etching press by hand one print at a time, then individually water colored.

This process with roots that date back to the 16th century, is now only practiced by artists in a few remaining specialist printmaking studios in the world.

Along with Trumbull College, the Yale Collection also has a very limited number of previously produced prints including Branford, Saybrook, Silliman, and Law School with more prints planned going forward.
